What Lynn + Lucy Is About
Lynn and Lucy have been inseparable since childhood, a friendship as consuming as any romance, and neither has moved far from the streets they grew up on. Lynn married her first boyfriend and is watching her own daughter turn into a teenager, so she is delighted when the volatile, magnetic Lucy has a baby boy, until it becomes clear that Lucy is not responding to motherhood the way Lynn had assumed she would. What follows tests the friendship against the judgement of an entire community. For his first feature Fyzal Boulifa cast Roxanne Scrimshaw, who had never acted before and answered an advertisement in a local paper, because he did not want anyone playing down to a working-class cliché. She was nominated for most promising newcomer at the 2019 British Independent Film Awards.
