C. V. Kumar's 2017 Tamil film follows a policeman investigating a series of strikingly similar murders in the city. As the connection emerges, the case moves out of ordinary serial-killer territory and into science fiction. The central idea is the transfer of memory. That theme is rarely used in Tamil cinema, and C. V. Kumar tries to build it on a low budget. The visual effects are limited; the film works instead through sound design and dark spaces. Sundeep Kishan leads, with Jackie Shroff as the character representing the scientific side. The narrative holds a detective pace in the first half; once the science-fiction element enters, the explanations thicken and the pace drops.
