Magamuni

Santha Kumar's 2019 Tamil film follows two brothers who have lived apart for a long time. One is a teacher in the countryside and the other a contract killer in the city, and their lives cross unexpectedly. The structure runs the two lines in parallel. The narrative leaves it unclear for a while which section belongs to whom; caste division and the question of land run in the background of both. Arya plays both roles. The violence is hard and direct; the narrative does not excuse the killer and does not build the teacher as faultless. The close is merciless. Who it's for: those who like Tamil crime drama and double-stranded narrative. Who it's not for: viewers expecting violence shown with restraint; the film shows it openly.
