Major

Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan was deployed at the Taj hotel during the Mumbai attacks of November 2008 and was killed getting hostages out. Sashi Kiran Tikka's film does not open with the attack. It starts with his childhood, his family and his decision to join the army, and moves toward that night. The story and screenplay are by Adivi Sesh, who also plays the lead. The film was shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi. Sandeep's parents were initially reluctant about a biopic, wanting an actor who resembled their son; they gave permission after approving Adivi Sesh's look. Prakash Raj and Revathi play the parents. It had a limited release on 24 May 2022 and opened worldwide on 3 June 2022. Who it's for: Viewers who like military biographies and Indian drama built on real events. Who it's not for: The telling is heroic and the emotional register stays high throughout. Anyone looking for a many-sided analysis of the 2008 attacks will not find it here.
