What Maktub Is About
The only two people to survive a bomb at a restaurant in Jerusalem are Steve and Chuma, small time enforcers who live off a protection racket. They take it as a sign and decide to change their lives and become angels in the flesh, setting out to grant the wishes of the people who write them on paper and leave them among the stones of the Western Wall. Naturally the way they go about doing good runs through the only methods they know, and things get complicated fast. Oded Raz’s hundred minute Israeli film was written by Guy Amir and Hanan Savyon, who also play the leads. It opened on 6 September 2017, became one of the biggest domestic hits of the year and was later released worldwide on Netflix.
