What Man on the Brink Is About
A young policeman is sent in undercover. The target is a criminal society in Hong Kong. He leaves his identity behind and goes inside. A new name, a new circle, a new life. His only tie to the outside is a colleague who helps him. The longer the work runs the weaker that tie gets. Inside the gang he has to earn trust. What he does to earn it keeps growing. He can tell nobody that he is a policeman. But he no longer feels like one either. He is caught between the two sides. The film puts that loneliness at its centre. It counts among the works that established the undercover story in Hong Kong cinema. Eddie Chen and Ada Fung appear in the hundred minute film, a Hong Kong production Alex Cheung Kwok-Ming finished in 1981.
