What Man with the Gun Is About

A stranger rides into town looking for the wife he separated from years ago, and finds her running the saloon girls. He also finds a town where nobody has seen the landowner who controls it and everyone is frightened of the men who work for him, the sheriff included. Cleaning up towns happens to be the stranger's trade, and he takes the job for five hundred dollars. Richard Wilson directs, with Robert Mitchum as Clint Tollinger and Jan Sterling as the saloon owner. The story comes from a magazine piece by N. B. Stone Jr. It is a short, hard western about the possibility that the man hired to save a town is more dangerous than the town was.
