Marcello Marcello

The film is set on an island in 1956. There is an old custom on the island. When a girl turns eighteen the suitors line up. Each young man brings a gift. But the gift is not for the girl, it is for her father. The father looks at the gifts and makes his choice. That is how the first outing is settled. Marcello is a fisherman’s son. He had never cared about the custom. Then Elena comes back to the island. Elena is the mayor’s daughter. When Marcello sees her he changes his mind. But time is short and there are many rivals. He turns the village upside down looking for the right gift. Francesco Mistichelli and Elena Cucci take the leads in Denis Rabaglia’s German, Swiss and Italian coproduction of 2008.
