What Marilena from P7 Is About
Andrei is thirteen and lives on the edge of Bucharest, and he is in love with Marilena, a woman who works the street and has her own accounts to settle. To make her notice him, Andrei steals a trolleybus. What starts as a child's gesture ends up somewhere nobody can stop. Cristian Nemescu's forty-five minute film was selected for Critics' Week at Cannes. That same year, in August 2006, Nemescu was killed in a road accident along with the sound engineer Andrei Toncu. He was twenty-seven, and his last film California Dreamin' was still unfinished in the edit. Marilena remains one of the most discussed short works Romanian cinema has produced.
