What Marion Bridge Is About
Three estranged sisters come together in the old house in Nova Scotia to look after their dying mother. Agnes is struggling with drink and bringing back a secret she has spent years running from; Theresa has taken refuge in religion and Louise has shut herself in front of the television. As the mother’s last days pass, old quarrels and a family matter nobody has ever named come back to the surface. Wiebke von Carolsfeld’s ninety minute Canadian film was adapted from a play and is her first feature. Molly Parker plays Agnes, with Rebecca Jenkins, Stacy Smith and a young Elliot Page in the cast. It was completed in 2003 and builds its mourning around what a family does not say.
