Mast Mein Rehne Ka

Vijay Maurya's 2023 Indian film follows an old man living alone in Mumbai. An inexperienced burglar who breaks in is caught, and instead of handing him to the police the man keeps him around. The subject is loneliness. Neither had been speaking to anyone; the narrative does not present that forced company as an emotional rescue and shows how the city makes such people invisible. Jackie Shroff and Neena Gupta are in the cast, and a second line follows their meeting. The tone is light and the humour everyday; the narrative produces no large event and the close is measured. Who it's for: those who like quiet Indian urban drama and narratives about old age. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a driven narrative; the film is built on everyday flow.
