Master and Tatyana

Vitas Luckus was a Lithuanian photographer. He was among the known names of the sixties and seventies. He worked outside the usual bounds in the Soviet period. What he put in the frame was everyday life and the street. He went beyond Lithuania and photographed other republics. The way he lived drew as much attention as his work. He lived in Vilnius with his wife Tatyana. It is said they even kept a lion at home. That freedom made the authorities of the day uneasy. Luckus died in 1987. The documentary tells his story through Tatyana. Archive photographs and testimony are brought together. The account asks why people are wary of those who are truly free. Tatyana Luckiene speaks in the eighty minute documentary, a Russian, Lithuanian, American and German production Giedrė Žickytė finished in 2015.
