A couple from Seattle come to New York to interview Tobi, a former dancer, for a dissertation on dance. Tobi is talkative, funny, long practised at turning his life into anecdote. But the questions drift away from dance and towards the personal. At some point it stops being clear whether this interview is for a dissertation at all, and all three people in the room find themselves doing something else. Stephen Belber directed the film from his own play. Patrick Stewart plays Tobi, with Carla Gugino and Matthew Lillard opposite him. It takes place almost entirely in one apartment and gets its force from exactly that, three actors trapped in the same room.
