What Maundy Thursday Is About
Yu-jeong has attempted suicide three times. Her aunt, a nun, talks her into coming along on volunteer visits to a prison. There she meets Yun-su, who is waiting on death row. Both of them regard their own life as worthless, and both carry a past they have never told anyone. They start meeting on Thursdays. The more they talk, the more of the untold comes out. But Yun-su's case is closed and the date of his execution is not known. Song Hae-sung directs, adapting Gong Ji-young's novel, with Lee Na-young as Yu-jeong, Gang Dong-won as Yun-su and Youn Yuh-jung as the aunt. Two hours. A film that came out in the middle of South Korea's argument about capital punishment.
