What McDull: The Pork of Music Is About
A kindergarten left without money in Hong Kong’s shrinking economy forms a children’s choir in order to keep going. The choir becomes unexpectedly famous and, with a shrewd manager taking charge, ends up on the biggest stage in the city. The film runs almost as a musical; classical pieces turn into children’s songs and the sound of the city gets inside the music. The usual tone of the series is here too: while it makes you laugh it reminds you how little people actually have. Although it is an animation made for children, what it is about is an adult worry; money, businesses closing and a changing city sit underneath the story. Brian Tse’s seventy nine minute Hong Kong animation was completed in 2012.
