McDull: Me & My Mum

As a child Bobby Mak was known as McDull. He was not a clever boy; his mother was the opposite. Her resourcefulness was such that she ran more than six businesses at once out of a space under a hundred square feet. The two of them spent his childhood happily. But as McDull got older, a distance opened between them that had not been there before. The film tells this in animation and with humour. How the distance between a mother and a child gets made sits at the centre of the story. The account takes in the daily life of Hong Kong as well. The eighty one minutes are spread over many years. Brian Tse’s Hong Kong film was completed in 2014.
