What Me Myself I Is About
Pamela Drury is a journalist of thirty five; her career is fine and her life is lonely. On her birthday she comes across an old photograph and remembers Robert, whose proposal she turned down thirteen years ago. What if she had said yes that day? After a strange accident Pamela finds herself inside that life: Robert's wife, mother of three, a house in the suburbs. Pip Karmel's first film as a director makes the what-if question neither a fantasy nor a lesson; it says both lives are incomplete. Rachel Griffiths plays both Pamelas and carries the film on her own. Karmel had worked as an editor before this, and it shows in the pacing of the telling. What comes out is a film that uses the shape of a romantic comedy without promising a happy ending.
