What Mediterraneo: The Law of the Sea Is About
In 2015, two Spanish lifeguards, Oscar and Gerard, see the photograph of a small boy washed up on a beach and travel to Lesbos. What they find does not match the news: people come out of the water every day, at every hour, and nobody is prepared. From there the film tells how the rescue operation Open Arms began. The title comes from Òscar Camps's own line, that maritime law obliges you to save a person who is drowning and that failing to do so is a crime. Marcel Barrena resists turning it into a heroic tale, keeping the arguments inside the crew and the feeling of inadequacy on screen. Eduard Fernández and Dani Rovira lead. It opened in Spain in October 2021. Who it is for: viewers who want true stories of humanitarian work. Who it is not for: anyone who needs distance from drowning and rescue scenes.
