What Metastases Is About

Four young men in Zagreb: one just out of addiction, one still using, one producing violence on the football terraces, one beating his wife. All four grew up after the war and none of them has been able to leave that time behind. The film follows a few days of their lives. There is no plan in any of it, only accumulated anger. Branko Schmidt's Croatian film generates no sympathy for its characters and does not soften what they say: the racism, the nationalism and the violence against women stand as they are. The film caused argument in Croatia; some said it held up a mirror, others that it turned violence into a spectacle. Both views were put.
