What The Vegetarian Cannibal Is About
Danko Babic is an ambitious and entirely amoral gynaecologist at Croatia’s leading fertility clinic. When his colleague Bantic is put in charge of it, Babic opens a quiet war to bring him down, and the attention he pours into that campaign leads to a chain of mistakes that ends with a patient’s death. A crooked coroner and a corrupt police officer cover it up while Babic sinks further into drink and drugs, and he begins performing illegal abortions on the women who work for Jedinko, the gangster running the local drug and sex trade. Branko Schmidt’s film opened on 1 March 2012 and was Croatia’s submission to the Academy Awards that year. Rene Bitorajac plays Babic.
