Miley Cyrus: Something Beautiful

A visual work made for all thirteen songs on Miley Cyrus's album of the same name. The film delivers the songs in order and tries to build a narrative link between them; by its own description it is a pop opera. The visual world sits between fashion shoot and fantasy: the costumes, sets and staging change with every track. Cyrus directed it herself. The narrative builds no linear story; the transitions between songs are made through image and tone, and some passages are entirely abstract. The production's interest is in the image more than the words. Naomi Campbell and Brittany Howard appear in the footage. The costume and make-up design is the most discussed aspect. Who it's for: Viewers who like visual albums, fashion aesthetics, and Miley Cyrus's music. Who it's not for: There is no narrative, and the film is entirely scattered for a viewer who does not know the songs. Some sections also amount to visual repetition.
