Minha Vida em Marte

Fernanda, in her forties, is unhappy with a life that looks perfect from outside: her marriage feels finished, her work does not satisfy her, and she cannot say so to anyone. On a trip she starts saying all of it out loud. The film is not interested in crisis. It is interested in the courage to admit something: she does not know what life she wants, only what she does not want, and the film tells that without shaming her. The form is popular Brazilian comedy: fast dialogue, scenes with a group of friends, holiday locations. The film continued the success the same team had with Minha Mãe é uma Peça and reached a wide audience in Brazil, becoming one of the most watched domestic comedies there. Susana Garcia directed; Mônica Martelli stars and co-wrote, and the character comes out of her stage show. Paulo Gustavo and Marcos Palmeira are in the cast. Who it is for: viewers who like Brazilian popular cinema and woman-centred relationship comedy. Who it is not for: anyone looking for subtlety. The jokes are direct and the resolution is tidied up too neatly.
