What Mio's Cookbook Is About
Mio lost her parents in a great flood as a child and in the same disaster was separated from Noe, her closest friend. Years later in Edo she finds her talent in cooking and tries to build a kitchen of her own; the taste of this city is not the taste of the place she came from, and she has to rethink every recipe. In the same city Noe now goes by another name and lives as a high ranking courtesan, and the two of them find each other. The film tells of friendship through food and shows how much room two women can find inside lives they did not choose. In Haruki Kadokawa’s hundred and thirty one minute Japanese film, Honoka Matsumoto plays Mio and Nao plays Noe. It was completed in 2020.
