Mistletoe & Menorahs

Christy works for a toy company and needs to learn about Hanukkah quickly in order to land a large account. For that she turns to Jonathan, a friend of a colleague. Jonathan has a matching problem: he has to turn his bachelor flat into a Christmas display to impress his girlfriend's father. The two set about teaching each other their own holiday, and, as expected, the teachers end up finding rather more than what they were taught. It is a made-for-television holiday romance and it stays inside the mould: the ending is clear within ten minutes, the conflicts are soft, nobody is really hurt. What distinguishes it is placing the two holidays side by side and using Hanukkah as something explained rather than as decoration. Kelley Jakle and Jake Epstein have enough ease together to keep it watchable. Set expectations correctly and it does its job.
