Mittagsstunde

When his grandmother Ella starts to lose her bearings and his grandfather Sönke will not give up the village pub, forty-seven-year-old Ingwer Feddersen takes leave from his university post in Kiel and goes back to Brinkebüll, the North Frisian village he grew up in. The pub is not the pub it was, but the real subject is the village itself. Ingwer keeps asking exactly when things went wrong: in the seventies, when land consolidation took the hedges away and the birds followed, or when bigger farms swallowed the small ones, or on the day he left his grandfather alone to go and study. Lars Jessen directed and Catharina Junk wrote the screenplay from Dörte Hansen’s 2018 novel. It was released in both a High German and a Low German version and opened on 22 September 2022.
