Mixed Doubles

Tomomi has played table tennis since she was a child; her mother founded a club and trained her in it. After her mother's death the club is on the verge of closing, and her private life falls apart too when her boyfriend leaves her for someone else. Tomomi goes back to the club and decides to enter a mixed doubles tournament. For a partner she finds a former boxer who knows nothing about table tennis but does know how to hit. The two have to get used to each other and to the game at once. Junichi Ishikawa directs, with Yui Aragaki as Tomomi and Eita as her partner. A hundred and nineteen minutes. It follows the shape of a sports comedy: a shambolic team, an impossible tournament, and a recovery that runs to the last match.
