Moonsund

Artenyev, captain of the Russian battleship Novik, is in love with a woman named Klara. Klara is an agent working for the German side. Both the war and their professions stand between them. The love is not touched by the fighting or the ships; the only thing that separates them is their duties. The film sets a naval war around a love story. The account draws neither side as the enemy; it leaves both inside the necessity each is under. The hundred and forty two minutes are spread over a few months of the war. Oleg Menshikov and Lyudmila Nilskaya appear in Aleksandr Muratov’s Soviet film, completed in 1987, with Nikolai Karachentsov also in the cast.
