Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge

Ethan Spaulding’s film is the first Mortal Kombat work made at Warner Bros. Animation; Warner bought the franchise from Midway in 2009, and it is the first animation since the 1996 television series. It is not the series’ first animated film, though: Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins arrived on VHS and LaserDisc in 1995. The drawing came from Studio Mir in Seoul, the studio behind most of The Legend of Korra. Ed Boon, one of the game’s creators, consulted, and the MPA rated it R, a series first. The Warner Bros. Animation logo was redrawn: in place of Porky Pig, Scorpion has Daffy Duck by the throat. Boon shared it on release day, calling it something he never expected to see. Kevin Michael Richardson, who voices Goro here, had voiced the character uncredited in the 1995 live action film. It went straight to video in April 2020 rather than into cinemas, earning 2.6 million dollars from American discs. In July 2021 the Oktyabrsky district court in Saint Petersburg banned its distribution in Russia, experts writing that it could encourage aggressive behaviour. A good fit if you want the finishing moves drawn uncut and accept Scorpion taking more room than the tournament. Not for anyone expecting the tournament strand to get its due; the two lines squeeze each other.
