What Moscow, Belgium Is About

Moscou is a crowded working-class district on the edge of Ghent. Matty, forty-one, has been left with three children while her husband chases his own midlife crisis. In a supermarket car park she puts her car into the side of a lorry. Johnny climbs down, shouts at her, she gives it straight back, and the row runs until the police arrive. Then Johnny rings to apologise. Despite the age gap, despite what everyone will say, and despite how much of Matty is already bruised, something begins. Christophe Van Rompaey plants the shape of a romantic comedy squarely in a working-class life. Barbara Sarafian's performance carries it.
