What Mosquito Is About
A young Portuguese man who dreams of adventure and of doing something for his country enlists during the First World War and is sent to the front in Mozambique. Left behind by his platoon, he sets out on a punishing walk of more than a thousand kilometres across Makua land. Joao Nuno Pinto opens the distance between the idea of heroism and the fact of war one step at a time, with the question of what a European boy is looking for on a colonial front sitting right in the middle. Malaria, heat and solitude are the real enemies here.
