What Mountain Cry Is About
In 1984 La Hong, who has recently settled in a small village in the Taihang mountains, walks up into the hills one day, steps into a trap set for badgers and dies shortly afterwards. The elders of the village lay the duty of looking after the widow Hong Xia and her two children on Han Chong, the young man who set the trap. She does not speak, and the village knows nothing about where she came from or what happened to her before. In time something grows between the two of them, and when word gets out the village does not take it well at all. The film was adapted from a novel by Ge Shuiping.
