Mr. Bjarnfreðarson

Georg Bjarnfreðarson comes out of prison after a ten year sentence. The sentence was for manslaughter. He gets out, but he cannot get out of his own past. Even his name is an issue: in Iceland a father’s name is used, and his comes from his mother’s. That makes him a target of mockery around him, and it is tied to his mother’s politics and to the question of who his father was. The film opens his story backwards as well as forwards. It was made as a sequel to three television series by Ragnar Bragason. More than twenty per cent of the population of Iceland watched it, and it won eleven Edda Awards. Jón Gnarr takes the lead in the Icelandic film of 2009.
