Mr. Perfect

Dasaradh's 2011 Telugu film puts the idea of compromise at the centre of a romantic comedy. Vicky breaks off his engagement to Priya, his childhood friend, when he sees how much she gives up for his sake; over time he learns for himself that life requires compromise. The idea is interesting, but the film builds it mainly as the man's process of learning. Prabhas's performance shows him in a looser register, before he settled into his identity as an action star. He and Kajal Aggarwal work well together. The film's problem is never asking plainly who compromise is expected from: the woman's concessions are presented as the problem, yet the story returns to a similar balance at the end. Who it's for: viewers who like Telugu romantic comedy and Prabhas's earlier work. Who it's not for: anyone wanting a critical view of the relationship dynamic, or who will find a runtime past two and a half hours excessive.
