My 11th Mother

Jae-soo is eleven and his life is hard for his age. His father is out of work, gambles and turns violent. The boy has learned to cook for himself, to make the food stamps stretch and to find odd jobs. His father has brought ten women home before this, and each of them left after a while. Then the eleventh arrives, moving in without warning. Neither of them trusts the other and they are at odds from the start. Then the woman learns the boy’s history, and the boy learns of her illness. The film looks at how those two pieces of knowledge change what is between them. Kim Hye-soo and Kim Young-chan appear in Kim Jin-sung’s South Korean film of 2007.
