What My Dad Baryshnikov Is About
In the Moscow of 1986, Borya, who has barely got into the Bolshoi ballet school, is hopeless at it; his feet will not do what they should and no teacher expects anything of him. One day, from a magazine that comes into his hands, he takes up the idea that Mikhail Baryshnikov, the dancer his mother knew years ago and who fled to the West, might be his father. That belief changes him at once: he starts working, selling jeans on the black market and building a story for himself. The film shows the shortages and the hope of the perestroika years by a child’s measure. Dmitry Vyskubenko appears in Dmitry Povolotsky’s eighty seven minute Russian film; it was completed in 2011.
