My Life as McDull

McDull is a piglet living in Kowloon, in Hong Kong. His mother McBing works alone and wants her son to become someone one day. McDull is not especially bright. He tries to become an Olympic athlete, gets ill and lands in hospital, wants to go to the Maldives, and his mother takes him up a hill in Kowloon and tells him this is it. The film is not about a child growing up but about how the promises his mother makes him cannot be kept. Toe Yuen directs the Hong Kong animation; seventy-five minutes. The character comes from Alice Mak and Brian Tse's comic strip and is very well known in Hong Kong. The film tells a local story, using the city's streets, its shops and its speech exactly as they are.
