What My Mexican Shivah Is About
Moishe dies at seventy five. His death comes during a celebration. His family and friends gather in Mexico City. A seven day period of mourning begins. It is called a shivah. Everyone stays together in the house. Over those days things left unsaid come out. His son has troubles of his own. His daughter cannot cope with growing older. Names nobody knew from the dead man’s life come to light. The story has another layer as well. Two angels come to the house and keep an account. They tally the man’s good and bad sides. The film is adapted from a novella. Blanca Guerra and Sergio Kleiner appear in the ninety eight minute film, a Mexican and American co-production Alejandro Springall finished in 2007.
