Little Saints

After a saint appears in Esperanza’s oven, she sets out to find her daughter, who is said to have died in mysterious circumstances. The journey forces her to question her own beliefs and to face her fears. The film neither confirms the miracle nor makes fun of it; it leaves as it is her believing in what she saw and being set in motion by it. The account begins in Mexico and reaches across the border, giving the people she meets along the way. The question of whether her daughter really died is the force that moves the story. The bond between a mother and her faith stands at the centre. Dolores Heredia and Demian Bichir appear in Alejandro Springall’s hundred and five minute film, completed in 1999.
