What My Name Is Sara Is About
In September 1942, thirteen-year-old Sara Góralnik, whose family was killed by the Nazis, escapes Poland into the Ukrainian countryside. To stay alive she takes the name and the identity of a Christian friend. In a small village she is taken in by a farmer and his young wife, and she starts living there, working the land. Inside that house Sara runs into something else: the tension, the secrets and the accusations the couple keep between themselves. A child who already has to hide who she is ends up carrying the silence of that house as well. Adapting a real life story, Steven Oritt does not enlarge his scenes; he trusts conversation and looks instead. Zuzanna Surowy plays Sara and carries the film on her own.
