What Naan Is About
A man who killed his mother and uncle as a child and grew up in a juvenile home takes the identity of a dead medical student to get into college. When a quarrel ends with his roommate dead as well, the fear of being found out pushes him further still. Jeeva Shankar’s first film adapts roughly the shape of The Talented Mr Ripley to Tamil cinema and leaves its protagonist no reserve of decency. The composer Vijay Antony took the lead, and also produced the film and wrote its score. It did well in 2012, was remade in Bengali and in Kannada, and got a sequel called Salim in 2014.
