Nabbie's Love

Nanako returns to her home town on the small island of Aguni to see her grandmother Nabbie. But the ferry she takes is also carrying another passenger returning to the island after a long absence: Nabbie’s former lover. The film gives an old matter left between two elderly people with comedy and shows how the community on the island receives it. The account does not draw the grandmother as a figure of old age and leaves her as someone who will make her own decisions. Music and local custom hold a real place inside the story. The island also sets the limits of the account. Naomi Nishida and Tomi Taira appear in Yuji Nakae’s ninety two minute Japanese film, completed in 1999.
