Nadiya Ke Paar

Chandan lives with his elder brother and his uncle. One day he crosses the river to fetch medicine for the uncle. There he meets Gunja. The two of them grow attached in time. Meanwhile a marriage is arranged between the families. Gunja’s elder sister Roopa marries Chandan’s brother. Roopa dies in a freak accident. A small child is left behind. The family decides the brother should marry again. They ask for Gunja as the bride. Chandan and Gunja are caught between two paths at once. One is what the family expects, the other is their own bond. The river keeps reminding them of the distance between two banks. The telling moves slowly and keeps the family reckoning in front. Sachin Pilgaonkar and Sadhana Singh appear in the one hundred forty nine minute film, an Indian production Govind Moonis finished in 1982.
