What Naked Among Wolves Is About
March 1945, Buchenwald. A three-year-old child is hidden in the case of an arriving prisoner. Hans Pippig, the inmate who finds him, knows that reporting the boy means his death, and that hiding him puts at risk the secret uprising prepared over months and hundreds of lives. The film is built on that dilemma and does not turn it into easy heroism. Adapted from Bruno Apitz's novel, which began from the story of a child who really was saved. The 1963 East German film of the same novel is the classic; this is a 2015 remake.
