Nazis: The Occult Conspiracy

The documentary takes up the Nazi regime’s relation to secret doctrines. By its account the regime drew on ancient mystical beliefs. Occult practices and techniques for controlling minds fall under this as well. The argument of the film is that these were put to use for the war. The beliefs of Hitler, Himmler, Hess and Göring are examined. A link is drawn between those beliefs and the doctrine of racial superiority. Which symbols Nazi propaganda used is shown. The documentary uses photographs from the period that are seldom seen. Malcolm McDowell reads the narration. The film was made for a television channel. Some of the connections it draws are disputed among historians. This account passes on those arguments as the documentary’s own. The telling proceeds in a tone of curiosity. The hundred and five minute documentary was directed by Tracy Atkinson and Joan Baran. It is an American production finished in 1998.
