Neerparavai

A skeleton is found in the yard of a house. The house belongs to a woman called Esther. Her husband has been missing for twenty five years. The man was called Arulappasamy and he was a fisherman. Esther gives a statement. She says that she killed her husband. A police officer called Agnes takes the case. Agnes listens to the woman patiently. Esther begins to tell it. What she tells goes back years. The question of territorial waters bears directly on the lives of fishermen. Going out to sea is a risk in itself. That is where the breaking of the family comes from too. Vishnu Vishal and Nandita Das take the leads, with Sunaina and Samuthirakani also in the cast, in Seenu Ramasamy’s Indian film of 2012.
