What Neomanila Is About

Toto is a teenage boy. He has no parents. His older brother Kiko is in prison. Getting him out takes money. Toto is trying to find that money. The search brings him to a death squad. A woman named Irma runs the group. Irma teaches the boy the work. In time something like a bond between mother and son grows between them. At the head of the arrangement they work for is a man called Sarge. The story unfolds in the shadow of the drug campaign in the Philippines. Large numbers of people were killed in the streets in those years. None of it is presented as heroism. When one of the targets turns out to be a familiar face, loyalty is put to the test. Eula Valdez and Timothy Castillo appear in the hundred and one minute film, a Philippine production Mikhail Red finished in 2017.
