What New Jersey Drive Is About
Jason and Midget are two teenagers in Newark. The city counts unofficially as the car theft capital of the world, and everyone in the neighbourhood has the same amusement: take a car and drive it around. Then one day they take a police car. After that it stops being amusement: the police come down hard on the neighbourhood, beating suspects and shooting at them. Jason finds himself inside something he cannot stop. Nick Gomez directs, with Sharron Corley and Gabriel Casseus. It comes out of American independent cinema of the nineties, shot like documentary and scored with hip hop. What it is about is not crime but the pressure between a neighbourhood and the police.
