News from the Good Lord

Alessandro Battavia is a novelist. One day he takes his own life. That death changes the lives of two people. One is a taxi driver called Evangile. The other is her brother Nord. The two of them fall into a strange thought. They believe themselves to be characters in a novel. What is more, they think God wrote that novel. The account follows that belief. The film tells it in the language of comedy. The line between reality and fiction grows blurred. Marie Trintignant and Maria de Medeiros take the leads, with Christian Charmetant and Jean Yanne also in the cast, in Didier Le Pêcheur’s French film of 1996.
