Night Stage

This film by Marcio Reolon and Filipe Matzembacher follows an actor and a politician who begin a secret affair. Both like being together in public places, and the risk keeps growing. The interest is visibility. One wants recognition on stage, the other wants to be elected; the narrative treats desire and career on the same axis and shows that the possibility of being caught is itself part of the pull for both. The directors have made queer thrillers before. The images are largely nocturnal, the locations public and the tension practical rather than moral; the narrative passes no judgement. Who it's for: those who follow Brazilian independent cinema and queer thrillers. Who it's not for: viewers uncomfortable with explicit sexuality; the film shows it directly.
