What Night World Is About

The story of one night in a Prohibition era New York nightclub called Happy’s. The relationship between the owner, Happy MacDonald, and his wife has rotted, he is being threatened by bootleggers, and the club’s star dancer is falling for a young society man who drinks to forget a private catastrophe. Directed by Hobart Henley for Universal, it runs fifty eight minutes and carries the freedom of the years before the production code. Boris Karloff is here straight after Frankenstein and Lew Ayres after All Quiet on the Western Front. Busby Berkeley staged the dances and Alfred Newman wrote the music. Clarence Muse, as the doorman, has a part far more developed than the period usually allowed.
